John F. Washington “Jack,” of Elkins Park, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, June 2, 2020. He was 82 years old. Jack was born on November 3, 1937 in Philadelphia to the late Frederick and Marjorie (McNeill) Washington. He was the husband to Mary-Louise “Mary” (Towner) Washington and together they shared 61 years of marriage.
Jack was a graduate of Cheltenham High School and was a member of the Ogontz Fire Company for over 60 years where he served in many elected positions as both Chief of Crew and President of the Company. He was an original appointee to the Cheltenham Township Historical Commission and served as their current chairman. At the time of his passing, he was the only living original appointee. Jack was also the Vice President of Friends of Historic Graeme Park in Horsham and was a past Ensign of American Revolutionary War Re-enactors 2nd PA/43rd Regiment of Foot. He was also a long time member of the American Revolution Round Table of Philadelphia since it’s founding in 2001.
In addition to his wife Mary, Jack is survived by his daughter, Sharon L., and his three sons: John F., Jr., Philip A. (Bonita), and David S. He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren: Lindsay, Philip A., Jr., Paul, and Sara.
A Life Celebration visitation for Jack will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2020 from 2:00-4:00 in the afternoon and again from 6:00-8:00 in the evening at Craft-Givnish of Abington, Inc., 1801 Old York Rd. Abington, PA 19001. Interment at Forest Hills Cemetery will be held privately on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 and a memorial service is planned in the future at Trinity Church Oxford, Philadelphia. Due to the current restrictions concerning the COVID-19 Pandemic, we ask that everyone in attendance wear face masks and that only ten people at a time enter the building to pay their respects to the family.
